I LOVE this post so much. You just articulated how I feel in such a thoughtful way. Thank you for your words and for pausing in your workout to jot down your thoughts.
In communications you hear the phrase, the medium is the message... and the new mediums that have taken over our lives invite us to monetize, share, grow, sell... I'm also a victim of the perfect day. And the thing is, it works. I am more productive, bla bla bla... the question, how can we add magic in there? Maybe as an automatic override?
Hmm such good thoughts/questions. I too am more productive when I fit in some of the stuff that makes the day go better - or better, makes me better adapted to the day regardless of how it goes.
How would we institute an automatic override? Tell me more...
A great read! I stopped writing fiction for a while now, because it is a commodity. It's "content." I wrote that way for ten years until the joy was leached from it. I've no interest in the publishing industry anymore, and I may self-publish the latest book I've written, because those who've read it love it. Sometimes I worry about trying to grow my Substack, then I stop, because I write it because I enjoy it.
Thanks, Thomas! Interesting about fiction - I want to hear more.
I've been wrestling with just self-publishing the living seasonally book, so this is helpful to hear your plans. Although I also think I need a good editor, so I'm trying to figure out what that would look like with self publishing.

Thanks for reading and for the encouragement, Amy. I'm thankful it landed/I'm not alone!

Maybe an automatic override is not the right term.... but here are some ideas:
- If my kids call me (they learned to use Alexa), pick up. **same applies to my wife and parents.
- If someone explicit asks for help, drop the next thing and do it. ** exceptions apply.
- If stressed or blocked, go for a walk and or gym.
- Unexpected to do a new experience, prioritize it
Any come to mind?

Freelance editors will edit your book. Often people hire them before querying a novel, as well.
