I think of myself as a slow reader. I also seem to tackle really long hard books (often in translation) and then wonder why it took me 6 months to read one book. Instead of tracking number of books, I keep track of number of pages, so when I read a book that is 800 pages or more it seems more balanced. It might be something for you to try.
I like this plan, Jen - thank you! It has the mental push of the number of books goal, but it feels like it would help me enjoy the process more versus just consuming for the sake of consuming.
And now I'm intrigued about your giant in translation book recommendations?!
The most recent book in translation was Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak. It was around 600 pages and took me forever. Mostly because I am a learner and I had to put the book down to research and timeline the political upheaval going on in Russia during that time. But I have also read huge volumes such as the George RR Martin series A Song of Ice and Fire.
You’re so good to remember all the things! This is why I need to write more because 2022 is a blur. But yes feeling the caretaker fatigue myself! Things that worked - walks with my dog. Things that didn’t - not sleeping enough!
At least of half of the reason why I have a newsletter is to make myself write things down :)
2022 is a blur for me too. We both were in it - and you still are. Be excessively gentle with yourself, as O' Donohue says! Wendell would like a walk with Skylar (and you!) in 2023 please. Hoping for more and better sleep in 2023!
